A little bit of progress and some medieval types.

11 Feb

The two deadlines I have for May are to paint a six point ‘Age of Alexander’ Saga army and to complete a regiment of shiny French Napoleonic cavalry and a brigade of shiny Westphalian Napoleonic infantry.

I’ve assembled most of the ‘Indian’ army for Saga (OK it’s not Indian looking. It’s the figures I had on hand). The figures are built from various plastic ranges but the horses are all by Gripping Beast. I must say, I’m a bit disappointed by the amount of filling I’m having to do to hide the joints across the horse’s necks. Otherwise, the figures are seriously nice.

So that’s a half decent start. I’ve also cleaned up and undercoated the 48 rank and file figures for the Westphalian brigade.

I have finished part of the Napoleonic target – an S Range Carabinier regiment. So that’s a box ticked. They were a joy to paint, but there were so many fiddly bits even with a simple paint job.

And just for a bit of fun……I tarted up and rebased some medieval types…….

So now I need to stay focused and get the rest of the Napoleonic stuff done for the Ayton May Bank Holiday weekend. But I also promised to get the Burt and Hall rules finished for a game in March – on which, more later.

    • Cheers mate,
Even though hardly anyone looks at the blog (and I’m enormously grateful to those who do), I must say that it does rather concentrates the mind….and it’s like a diary with pictures.
I must try to keep it up to date.

  1. Excellent stuff as always Mr B. Loving the Carabiniers, (even though the belts are wrong), tsk tsk. The Medievals look great, those bases are the nuts.

    • Thank you Tim.
I put money on you noticing the belts. I didn’t notice the mistake until after I declared the unit finished. I couldn’t face going back over them.

  2. Love the shiny types! Can’t make out the Indians very well in their black undercoat but looking forward to seeing them finished.
Everybody loves the French Napoleonic Carabiniers, but in 1815 it seems they were a very dodgy outfit, if some writers are to be believed. Back in the day I recall reading that Kellerman tried to tuck them out of the way so they wouldn’t go in the meat grinder with the rest of the French cavalry. Now it seems that the evidence points to them being left out as untrustworthy / unreliable having several officers desert to join the royalists – I wonder if anyone downgrades them for their 1815 games?

    • Well Rob, that’s very interesting. I can assure you that, should anyone use them against me, they will now most certainly be down graded. Thanks for that.
I’m glad you like the shiny types. A glossy soldier is a happy soldier.
The ‘Indians’ didn’t photograph well. I’ll try harder next time.
