Oh dear…….I’ve done it again……

3 Jan

……or ‘not’ done it again is more accurate. Another year of blog silence. Maybe this year I’ll do better.

2024 was a funny old year. Although I played plenty of wargames, the ‘plan’ went south along with my painting mojo. And, it seemed that barely a month passed when I wasn’t afflicted by some kind of ailment or an injury.

So, what happened to the 2024 plan?

Bugger all was done on time. The Saga project was finished…..in October, rather than in May…..but Pemps and I still haven’t had our game (my fault I hasten to add). Kit-bashing the chariots was fun, but painting them, the eight warrior cavalry and the twenty four peasants completely sucked the joy out of painting. I hated doing them, and it shows. I didn’t even bother taking piccies of the infantry.

The four Hearthguard chaps are Perry Afghans and Gripping Beast Arabs. The chariots are the Victrix Celtic chariots (the Celtic driver has a new hat). Quite a lot of carving was required to get the buggers to fit together.

Warriors

These are Gripping Beast light and heavy Arab cavalry with bits and bobs added from the Bits and Bobs draw.

Terrain

Needless to say, I did none of the terrain stuff I’d planned. However, last year my mate Tim gave me a beaten up old windmill model that had probably been around since he was a boy……..a very, very, long time ago. It needed some TLC (including a set of sails) and a bit of simple detailing.

I’m not sure what scale the old girl’s meant to be, but I’m sure she’ll look lovely in one of our 42mm games.

Also off plan, I managed to finish some Jacklex 20mm Egyptian cavalry. Lovely little figures.

Finally [can that really be all?], I did manage to do something from the plan……a brigade of Westphalians for the Shiny Napoleonic project.

I think I’ll leave it at that. I’ll post about some of the games in 2024 shortly, along with anything else I can drag up that might make the year look more productive.

  1. Well. That’s something at least! Well done. The Saga stuff does look splendid though, as does the other stuff, especially the Naps.

Look forward to the next update. Hopefully this year…

  2. Those Jacklex figures make a lovely unit – it’s so sad that Jacklex went out of business yesterday, but it will serve me right for not actually turning some of planned projects into reality – but then again my lead mountain is probably too big alreday.
Wishing you a great 2025 with lots of gaming and painting – and perhaps even a post or two?

    • What! Jacklex is no more! That’s sad, but, like you, my lead pile is already making my shelves groan under the weight.
Yes, more posts. That would be nice.
And your blog – I can’t find it. I did have a link on Feeder but it got lost when the computer got reset.
